News from La Gomera Spring 2014

Gomera WalkingFirst of all...a big thanks to all our friends, family and clients who have made such such valuable comments and contributions to help Gomera Walking create our current holiday offerings. We are very pleased to be able to report that our entire 2013 - 2014 winter program has been fully booked now for several weeks. Also sorry if you have been disappointed at being unable to get a place with us this season and we hope to be in a position to pGomera Walkingublish our provisional new schedule for next winter in early March.Spring is now well under way with the Island as green as we've ever seen it and lots of spring colour appearing all over. The almond blossoms have been particularly spectacular this year. Weather wise...just like home it has been unusual with temperatures somewhat lower than normal and quite a bit of light rain instead of the usual short downpours and even if the tourists have found this unsettling the Islanders are loving it!  Although our Walking Holidays are fully booked for the rest of the season I just want to remind you that should you want to visit La Gomera independentlyGomera Walking we are very happy to help you arrange accommodation, transfers, ferries and car hire and can offer significant sav
ings so let us give you a quote. We also have developed very good relationships with Diamond Resorts in Tenerife and should you need overnight or longer accommodation in Golf Del Sur or Adeje we can offer high quality self-catering accommodation at a good discount from the normal rates.Best Wishes

November News

Paddy & I got back to La Gomera 10 days ago to find very little change on our favorite little Island. The weather has been gorgeous with blue skies & sunshine every day and temperatures up in the mountains around 20 deg C (70 deg F). It's balmy at night so we can eat out on our terrace and the sea temperature around 25 deg is just gorgeous for swimming. I hate to say it but we are hoping for rain in the next few weeks as the lower parts of Island currently look a bit brown after the summer and a few days of torrential downpour will just turn it fresh & green again in no time.

Our scheduled season starts on November 27th with our Popular Package which we will be basing over in San Sebastian on account of accommodation shortage here in Playa de Santiago with Hollywood in town for the next two months to film Ron Howard's new movie "Heart of the Sea" with Brendan Gleeson, Cillian Murphy and Ben Whishaw...very exciting.

Our bookings for January & February are well ahead and we are starting to experience availability problems so if you're thinking of joining us in La Gomera after Christmas please take a look on our website for the update but most important that you email us first before committing to flights as availability does change quickly due to our small group size.

Please note that our services are available to assist you in booking your La Gomera holiday even if you're not a walker or want to walk independently. We can offer accommodation from 4 star luxury Hotel Jardin Tecina to self-catering 1 bedroom apartments in both Playa de Santiago and San Sebastian at very good rates. We also have a range of very nice apartments in South Tenerife if you want to mix and match or need to stay a night en route to/from La Gomera and we can arrange all transfers from the airport to your hotel/apartment including ferries for your added convenience. Just email us with your requirements.

Best Wishes

Andy & Paddy

Gomera Walking

Gomera WalkingAutumn is upon us albeit quite benign so far. However the nights are drawing in and another couple of weeks when the clocks go back it is definitely time to think of sunny La Gomera for a pleasant little winter break where you can join us for some sunshine walking on the spectacular caminos and paths of the most beautiful and unspoiled of the Canary Islands.Good news is that flights in general have come down in price due to increased competition and just this morning as an example I see Ryanair offering return flights from Dublin to Tenerife for as little as €175 while Easyjet from Gatwick to Tenerife are as low as £104 return! Now that Michael O'Leary has decided to become a nice guy and improve Ryanair customer service....who knows what will happen!Regrettably, the earliest we can offer availability for our Premium Package based in theluxurious 4 star Hotel Tecina Jardin is 8th January due to accommodation in Playa Santiago being booked out for the shooting of Ron Howard's new movie "The heart of the Sea" starring Brendan Gleeson & Cillian Murphy in November/December. We have been able to relocate our November Popular Package from Santiago back to San Sebastian and still have limited availability from 27th Nov to 4th Dec. If you're interested please email for latest update. For solo travelers we have a great offer on our Premium Package in January & March....zero single occupancy premium! We look forward to a time when this becomes standard and not just a special offer and we continue to work with our suppliers to try to bring this about.Paddy & I will be heading back down to La Gomera on Friday next and will update you in our next newsletter of any changes for our new season which will in fact be our 4th year of operation...where does the time go??So this winter if you want somewhere within easy flying distance where you can walk in your t-shirts and shorts in 20 - 25 deg temperatures (usually without rain!) off the beaten track and without all the hustle bustle of package holiday resorts....give us a call. You'll love La Gomera.Best WishesAndy & Paddy

Brendan Gleeson disrupts Gomera Walking

Good news for La Gomera is that Brendan Gleeson & Cillian Murphy are starring in a new movie by Ron Howard, producer of The Da Vinci Code, Cinderella Man etc. to be shot in Playa de Santiago in November/December. It's the true story of the Whaling ship "Essex" which was sunk by a whale and provided the inspiration for Herman Melville's classic novel Moby Dick. The bad news is the movie company have taken up all the best accommodation including ours (despite promises by the owners!) I'm a bit annoyed about this but in a way I can't blame them because it is a great opportunity in these recessionary times.

Our season is scheduled to start 27 Nov - 4 Dec and what it means now is that we will not be offering Premium Package for this week while we are moving our Popular week over to San Sebastian where we are able to offer similar accommodation. If the winter blues are starting to set in and you're thinking of coming for this week please contact me as soon as possible as accommodation is limited.

I'm just after looking at typical flights and I see from Gatwick, Easyjet have flights for November at £139 return or (£110 if you're flexible and want a couple of extra days in Tenerife/ Gomera): From Manchester Easyjet are available at £139 return and Ryanair's Dublin flight is priced at €163 return. Meanwhile there are loads of other options to get to Tenerife South (TFS) from UK and Ireland including Jet2.comAer LingusMonarchThomas Cooke and Thompson.

Our packages run from Wednesday to Wednesday but if your chosen flights don't operate on Wednesday you can come on other days and we'll help you with additional accommodation in Tenerife so that you can join up with our group for the ferry crossing. Additional days in luxury self-catering accommodation in Tenerife are available from €55 per night for a studio (sleeps 2).

The new year will see the movie stars gone and our schedule back to normal. Our Popular Package which is now priced at only €559 pps be based in Playa de Santiago in the South of the Island where we have found excellent apartments right on the sea-front with a balcony where you can sit in the evening sun, put your feet up and enjoy a glass of wine after a day's walking in the mountains. These are totally self-catering but close by you will find shops and a variety of lovely little restaurants where you can eat and drink at very reasonable prices. Availability can be limited so we urge you to book early for this option.

Our Premium Package continues to be based in the 4 star luxury Hotel Tecina Jardin set in beautiful tropical gardens and overlooking the picturesque village of Playa Santiago. Price remains unchanged at €899 for half-board including complimentary upgrade to "Comfort Room" and if you feel like really spoiling yourself you can further upgrade to a "Superior Room" for as little as €10 per person per night. Full details of both packages are on our website.

Some very good news for solo travelers... with our premium package we can now offer availability for January & March with no single occupancy premium saving you €100. Regrettably this offer applies to the Premium Package only as so far we have been unable to negotiate a reduction for single occupancy in our Popular self-catering apartments.

Looking forward to our new season and hope we can introduce you to the pleasures of winter walking in la Gomera.

Meanwhile, enjoy the remains of our summer!
